Recently, Ben did not feel like looking at books in bed during his quiet time. Instead, I offered him his etch-a-sketch, which he was happy to play with. He also requested a purple marker, which i gave to him along with a sketch pad. I told him to draw only on the paper and left him alone for quiet time. Some time later he emerged from his room to ask if nap time was over. I told him he could get up and he ran out to the couch. I had been resting on my own bed, listening to the rain. When it started to thunder I asked if he wanted to join me to listen to the rain and thunder. He ran into my room and jumped in bed. Surprise! Body art with purple marker. I guess I'm lucky it didn't end up on the walls. Ben snuggled in close to me and promptly fell asleep. It was a lovely moment.

ben and lee

We are sad to see another one of Ben's friends leaving Brooklyn in just a couple weeks. Ben's best buddy, Lee is moving to Minneapolis with his parents, Leslie and Alex. Leslie has become one of my closest neighborhood friends so it is a big loss for me as well. I'm sure Ben will make new friends when he starts preschool in the Fsll, but it is hard to see someone he has become so close to over the past couple years go away. Though we have talked to Ben about it, I don't think he'll really get it until Lee is gone.

new shades

Ben's been enjoying the new pair of shades he got as a complimentary gift when we bought his new summer shoes. Also, he's been working on getting dressed on his own. The other day he put his pants on all by himself - backwards.

oh yeah ... lookin' good.

field trip to moma

Ben and I recently went to visit the MOMA where we took part in an installation called Rain Room. Rain Room is a large room where it is raining inside but when you walk slowly into the filed of falling water it pauses wherever a human body is detected. Ben was a little nervous but i carried him in and we had the unique experience of standing in the rain without getting wet and laughed about it afterwards. Then we went into the MOMA to see the suspended helicopter and Claus Oldenburg show.
